Monday - Read Psalm 94
A Prayer For Vengeance For The Righteous
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
1. Why do you think the psalmist calls God the “God of vengeance” in this passage? Because he is calling on God to bring vengeance on the wicked who had attacked His people.
2. What other characteristic does the psalmist attach to the wicked, verse 2? They are proud, arrogant.
3. Why do you think the psalmist mentions that the wicked “kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless,” verse 6?Because God is known as a God who looks out for those who have no one else to look out for them.
4. What message does the psalmist have for the wicked in this psalm, verses 8-11? God hears and sees what they are doing.
5. What does the psalmist say God accomplishes through His discipline, verse 13? Gives men rest from days of trouble.
6. What is the psalmist sure about in regards to God, verse 14? That He will not forsake His people.
7. What do you think the psalmist is saying in verse 17? If it had not been for God he would have been killed by the wicked.
8. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Tuesday - Read Psalm 95
A Psalm Of Praise And Warning - Praise to God and warning to sinners.
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study
9. What do you think the psalmist is saying when he tells the people to “make a joyful noise to the LORD,” verses 1 & 2? Come before God with actions that are joyous and thankful. Let your actions acknowledge your praise of, and thanksgivings to God.
10. Why does the psalmist say we should make a joyful noise to the LORD? For He is a great God and a great King above all gods.
11. Why does the psalmist say we should kneel before God, verse 6? Because He is our Maker.
12. What do you think is the meaning of the statement “today if you hear His voice do not harden your hearts...? Do not refuse to do what God says if you hear His voice.
13. Why does the psalmist say the fathers put God to a test, verse 9? Because they continually did not do what He told them to do.
14. What do you think is the meaning of verse 11, “they shall not enter My rest”? Those who do not do what they hear God telling them to do will not enter into His rest, His reward.
15. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Make a joyful noise to the Lord. Sing a song of praise and thanksgiving to God.
Wednesday - Read Psalm 96
A Call To Worship
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
16. What do you think is the “new song” the psalmist tells the people to sing to God, verse 1? The song of salvation.
17. What does the psalmist say the people of God should be doing, verse 2? Telling the world of God's salvation.
18. Why is God to be feared above all gods? Because He alone is God.
19. Why does the psalmist say the world will never be moved, verse 10? Because it has been established by God.
20. What does the psalmist say God will do, verse 13? He will judge the world in righteousness.
21. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Pray for the hearts of all men that they may come to know the new song, the song of salvation.
Thursday - Read Psalm 97
A Psalm Of Praise For God's Power And Dominion
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study
22. Since God is light, what do you think the psalmist is saying when he says “clouds and thick darkness are all around Him,” verse 2? The psalmist seems to be implying there is mystery surrounding God; you cannot understand all things about Him.
23. Why does the psalmist say the whole earth trembles, verse 4? It trembles at the actions of God.
24, Why are the worshipers of all images put to shame, verse 7? Because they are worthless, they do nothing for those who worship them.
25. Why do the daughters of Judah rejoice, verse 8? Because of God's judgments.
26. What does the psalmist say those that love the Lord should do, verse 10? Hate evil
27. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Give praise and thanks to God for He is good.
Friday - Read Psalms 98
Praise To God
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
28. What do you think are the marvelous things that God has done that the psalmist is referring to in verse 1? Made His salvation known and revealed His righteousness.
29. Why does the psalmist say the earth should make a joyful noise to the LORD? Because the earth will also be released from the curse when God comes in judgment.
30. What do you think the psalmist means in verse 3, “All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God”? In context, he was probably speaking of the world seeing the deliverance of the Israelites.
31. What does the psalmist say will be the purpose of the coming of the LORD, verse 9? To judge the world and its people.
32. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Praise God for His greatness and goodness.
Saturday - Read Psalm 99
Holy, Holy, Holy
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
33. Why does the psalmist say the people should tremble, verse 1? Because God reigns and He is so awesome and powerful.
34. What do you think the psalmist means when he says the LORD “...sits enthroned upon the cherubim...,” verse 1? Cherubim were thought to be the highest order of spiritual beings by the Israelites and the psalmist is saying that God is above them.
35. What do you think it means in verse 2, “...He is exalted over all the peoples,”? Whether or not they acknowledge Him, God still reigns over all peoples.
36. What does the psalmist say about God as king in verse 4? He loves justice and has established equity.
37. What do you think it means when the psalmist tells people to “...worship at His footstool...” verse 5? The psalmist is probably acknowledging God's greatness and that man is not worthy to approach Him, so they should only come and bow at His footstool.
38. Why do you think the psalmist mentions Moses, Aaron and Samuel in verse 6? They were the fathers of the Israelites and the people knew that God heard and answered their prayers.
39. Why does the psalmist say God should be worshiped, verse 9? Because He is holy.
40.. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Praise God for His holiness and ask Him to help you really come to understand all that “being holy” means.
