Daily Guide: Week 84

Psalms                                                           Week 84 – 8/15/10
Monday – Read Psalm 113
Hallelujah Psalm – God Praised For Exalting The Humble
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
1. Why does the psalmist say God should be praised? Because He is above all and over all and there is no one like Him.
2. What does the psalmist say God does for the poor, verse 7? He raises them up and provides for them.
3. What does the psalmist say God does for the barren woman, verse 9? He gives her a home and makes her the joyous mother of children.
4. What do these two things, what God does for the poor and barren woman, say about the character of God?  God cares for those who do not have anyone to provide and protect them.
5. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Thank God for His concern and care for those who have no one to look after their interests.

Tuesday – Read Psalm 114 & 115
Psalm 114 – God’s Actions In Deliverance – Psalm 115 - Psalm Of Contrast – Idols With God
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
6. What does the psalmist say God did when He delivered Israel, verse 2? Made His sanctuary with them.
7. In verses 3 and 4, the psalmist gives human characteristics to things in nature, sea and mountains, and then in verse 5 asks them “What ails you?” What does the psalmist say caused the actions of the sea and mountains? God appeared and made His presence known among His people.
8. Why does the psalmist say glory should be given to the name of God, Ps. 115:1? Because of His steadfast love and faithfulness.
9. What does the psalmist say is the difference between God and idols, verses 5-7? The idols are lifeless, cannot do anything.
10. What does the psalmist say happens to people who worship idols, verse 8? They become like their idols, lifeless and cannot do anything.
11. Why does the psalmist say Israel should trust in the Lord, verse 9? He is their help and shield.
12. What does the psalmist say God has done with the earth, verse 16? He has given it to man.
13.  What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Praise and thank God for His steadfast love and faithfulness.
Wednesday – Read Psalm 116
Thanksgiving For Recovery
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
14. Why did the psalmist say he loved the Lord? Because God had heard his pleas for mercy.
15. What does the psalmist say was his condition when he cried out to God? He was in distress and anguish, almost at the point of death.
16. As a result of his deliverance, what does the psalmist say he will do for the Lord? Give Him thanks and promises to pay his vows to the Lord.
17. What do you think the psalmist is saying in verse 15? Even though the death of His saints is precious to the Lord, God chose to deliver him and not let him die.
18. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Thank God for sparing your life for another day and pray for strength to use the new day to God’s glory.
Thursday – Read Psalm 117 & 118
Psalm 117 Probably Written As A Doxology – It is the shortest of all the psalms.
Psalm 118 Is A Psalm Of Praise
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
19. In Psalm 117, why does the psalmist say God should be praised? For his steadfast love and faithfulness.
20. Why does the psalmist say God should be praised in Psalm 118? Because His steadfast love endures forever.
21. What does the psalmist say was God’s relationship to him? God was on his side, He was his helper.
22. What does the psalmist say God did when he called to Him? He heard his cry and delivered him, set him free.
23. What does the psalmist say are in the tents of the righteous? Songs of salvation.
24. After reading this psalm, what was the condition of the psalmist from which he was delivered? Apparently he was surrounded by the armies of other nations, maybe even at the point of death, and God delivered him.
25.  What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer: Thank God for delivering you from the bondage of sin in Christ Jesus.
 Friday – Read Psalm 119
The Excellency Of The Law Of God – This psalm appears to have been written by a young man who is living under a hostile government. He considers the Law of God and proclaims it is excellent in every possible aspect.  There are 22 stanzas in this psalm, each containing 8 verses. The Hebrew word “torah,”  meaning “law,” is used in each of the 22 stanzas.
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared for you during your study.
26. What do you understand is the meaning of the word “blessed” in verses 1 & 2? Word carries the idea of “to be looked upon favorably.”
27. What does the psalmist say is his desire in verses 1-8? To learn God righteous rules and keep them steadfast, verses 5 & 7.
28. How does the psalmist say a young man can keep his way pure, verse 9? By guarding it according to God’s Word.
29. What does the psalmist say is the advantage of storing up the Word of God in your heart, verse 11? That you may not sin against God.
30. Why does the psalmist ask God to open his eyes, verse 18? That he may behold wondrous things from the Law.
31. In verse 36, why does the psalmist ask God to incline his heart to the Word? So that he will not chase after selfish gain.
32. What do you think the psalmist means in verse 48 “I will lift up my hands toward your commandments...”? He is reaching out for them; reaching to get them..
33. What does the psalmist say about the love of God in verse 64? It is steadfast and the earth is full of it.
34. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer:  Thank God for His Word and ask Him to help you be faithful in daily reading and studying.
Saturday –  Re-Read Psalm 119
The Excellency Of The Law Of God
Prayer: Ask God to open your heart so that you can learn what He has prepared from you during your study.
35. What does the psalmist say had happened to his life, verse 67? He went astray and was afflicted.
36. Why does the psalmist want his heart to be blameless, verse 80? So that he won’t be put to shame.
37. What do you think the psalmist is speaking of in verse 83, “For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke...”? He is dried out, parched and worn out.
38. From reading this psalm, what do you understand is the condition of the psalmist? He is being persecuted, maybe he has been taken captive and is calling out to God for deliverance.
39. What does the psalmist say is his heritage, verse 111? God’s testimonies.
40. Why does the psalmist say it is time for the Lord to act, verse 126? Because His testimonies have been broken.
41. After reading verses 145 thru 152, what does it appear is the condition of the psalmist? He is being oppressed to such an extent that it makes it difficult to keep the Law of God.
42. What does this psalm say to you personally; how does it help you; what does it say to you about your relationship with God?
Prayer:  Ask God for strength so that you will keep His law under any and all conditions.
